Meet the Musicians of Stringanza
Stringanza’s Quartet and Duo formats bring together a team of accomplished huqin musicians and cellists. Their experience spans solo, chamber, orchestral and cross-cultural performance, shaping the ensemble’s distinctive blend of Erhu, Gaohu, Zhonghu and Western Cello.
Lim Kwuan Boon

Kwuan Boon is a founding member and Quartet Master of Stringanza. A Diploma holder in Erhu Performance, he won second prize in the National Chinese Music Competition’s Erhu Open category in both 2010 and 2016. His experience spans solo, concerto, recording and international festival work, bringing extensive musical leadership to the ensemble.
Yang Ji An

A Diploma holder in Erhu Performance, Ji An served as principal Erhu with the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra and has performed across Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and the United States. His experience across solo, chamber and large-scale orchestral settings brings versatility and ensemble sensitivity to Stringanza.
Deborah Siok

Deborah is an Erhu musician and First Class Honours graduate in Music. She won first prize in the 2018 National Chinese Music Competition’s Erhu Open category and the Solo Grand Prize at the 2020 Singapore Chinese Music Competition. Her experience brings assured technique, expressive range and confident stage presence to Stringanza.
Chen Ning

Chen Ning holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) and Diploma in Erhu Performance. She has served as a concertmaster and Zhonghu sectional leader, and performs professionally across chamber and orchestral settings. Her experience on both Erhu and Zhonghu contributes to the breadth and tonal contrast of Stringanza’s Chinese bowed-string sound.
Ng Rui Jun

Rui Jun is a huqin musician experienced in Erhu, Gaohu and Jinghu. A Diploma holder in Erhu Performance, he has appeared as a concerto soloist, premiered new works and held musical leadership roles as principal, sectional leader and conductor. His range across Chinese bowed-string instruments adds flexibility and colour to Stringanza’s arrangements.
Vincent Luo
cello
Vincent is a founding member and holds an ATCL Diploma in Cello Performance with Distinction. Trained in both cello and piano, he has taken part in cross-cultural ensemble projects and performances in India, China and the Philippines. His collaborative experience across musical traditions supports the Cello’s grounding role within Stringanza’s East-meets-West sound.
Andrew Chan

Andrew holds an ATCL Diploma in Cello Performance and has extensive experience across Chinese and Western ensembles. He previously served as principal cellist of the NUS Symphony Orchestra and has performed in both local and overseas productions. His versatility allows him to move naturally between classical repertoire and Stringanza’s Chinese string textures.
Gan Ying Ying

Ying Ying is a cellist whose training includes six years in a national youth Chinese orchestra and further study at the Yong Siew Conservatory of Music. Alongside performance, she is committed to music education and mentoring younger players. Her experience within Chinese orchestral settings gives her a strong understanding of the Cello’s role in Stringanza’s sound.
Stringanza also acknowledges former founding members Leaw Weilin and Phang Kok Jun for their contribution to the ensemble’s development.
